The story of
Hotel Phønix in Hjørring was built in 1884-85, and Wilhelm Kypper opened it on 1 May 1885 under the name Kyppers Hotel. In 1899 it was sold to G. Clasen, who renamed it Hotel Bristol, and in 1947 Helga and Holger Jensen bought the hotel and renamed it Hotel Phønix. The hotel was then extended with 27 double rooms and two function rooms. Birgitte Messmann took over the hotel in 1994 and runs it today together with her brother Henrik Messmann. In 2020, we received a Green Key Certificate based on our sustainable initiatives.

We would like to inform you that we have free WiFi in all our premises and in all our rooms. This applies both in our meeting rooms and in our rooms, so you can stay updated and connected during your stay with us.
In our backyard you will find 40 parking spaces. To get free parking, simply give your number plate at reception when you check in. You also get three hours of free parking in the Mammut Square, just a two-minute walk from the hotel.
EVBox charging stand
In addition to parking, you will also find electric charging stations in the backyard. We offer a charging station from EVBox. You just need to bring your own charging cable.
Kyppers Terrace & Bar
On the ground floor by reception you will find the hotel bar and covered terrace. From the terrace you have a view of the street. Here you can end the day with a cup of freshly ground coffee, a draught beer from Bryghuset Vendia or a refreshing drink.

The Messmann Family
Birgitte Messmann, Hotel Manager
I am Birgitte Messmann, and I am the hotel manager at Hotel Phønix in Hjørring, with many years of experience in the industry. I work at the reception and take care of the finances.
I have been in the hotel and restaurant industry since 1989, and I have been hotel manager at Hotel Phønix in Hjørring since 1994.
Before I joined Hotel Phønix as hotel manager, I was tenant and restaurant manager at Restaurant Fyrklit in Hirtshals from 1991 to 1994 and again from 2009 to 2011. I have also been reception manager at Hotel Norden in Haderslev from 1989 to 1991. I was a receptionist student at Feriehotel Fyrklit in Hirtshals from 1986 to 1989.
In more recent times I have also been the owner of Kallehavegaard Badehotel in Løkken from 2011 to 2019.
Henrik is my brother, Christoffer is my son and Mikkel is my nephew.
Henrik Messmann - Sales Director
I am Henrik Messmann and I am the Sales Director at Hotel Phønix Hjørring. I have extensive experience in sales and marketing.
I have been responsible for increasing the hotel’s turnover by improving customer service, offering attractive packages and events, and by leveraging our online marketing.
I have also been a board member of Hjørring Handel since 2020, and chairman of the board of the Association of Hotels and Inns West of the Great Belt since 2022.
Birgitte is my sister, Mikkel is my son and Christoffer is my nephew.
Mikkel Messmann - Head of Reception
I am Mikkel Messmann, with a broad experience in the hotel industry, both as receptionist manager at Hotel Phønix in Hjørring and as chef and waiter at Kallehavegaard Badehotel in Løkken.
I have an education as a receptionist and a basic management education, and I have a strong competence in guest satisfaction, technology and law.
I am a responsible and dedicated employee who always puts our guests’ well-being first. I believe that good service and hospitality are key to creating satisfied guests, and I will always do my best to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience during their stay with us.
Henrik is my father, Christoffer is my cousin and Birgitte is my aunt.
Christoffer Messmann - Marketing Manager
I am Christoffer Messmann, and I have been part of Hotel Phønix Hjørring since 1994, but I only started working here in 2014.
I am a receptionist responsible for marketing and social media. Previously worked as receptionist, head waiter and waiter at other hotels and restaurants.
Since September 2021 I have been responsible for marketing at Hotel Phønix Hjørring, where I have focused on increasing our social media presence, improving our SEO ranking and implementing new business strategies to increase guest satisfaction.
I have a degree in Service Economics with a top up in Innovation & entrepreneurship from UCN.
Birgitte is my mother, Mikkel is my cousin and Henrik is my uncle.
