On December 27th in 1900, Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse was turned on for the first time. It should function as a point of orientation for ships in the Danish waters. The surrounding nature is harsh and lives its own changeable life. Therefore, the dunes grew taller and taller until the light from the lighthouse could not be seen by the ships anymore. The lighthouse was then turned off on August 1st in 1968. 

Today, the lighthouse is still standing, however just barely. In 2019, the 700 tons heavy lighthouse was moved 70 meters away from the dune edge because  the ocean takes away some of the coast every year. The move took nearly six hours.
