About us
A cosy city hotel in the heart of Vendsyssel
Hotel Phønix Hjørring has managed to preserve its historic and charming soul for more than 130 years. Today the hotel is run by siblings Birgitte and Henrik Messmann and cousins Christoffer and Mikkel Messmann. Our unique location in the heart of Hjørring, just an hour’s drive from Skagen and Aalborg, makes it a perfect base for experiencing and exploring North Jutland and its many attractions. Hjørring town itself offers a cosy pedestrian street and the shopping centre “Metropol” as well as other experiences.

In 2020 we were awarded the “Green Key” certificate based on our sustainable actions.

Parties
If you’re having a confirmation, wedding, birthday or other special celebration, we’re here to help. You decide everything from the table setting, colour of tablecloth, napkins, flowers and menu. On the day itself, we will be ready to take care of everything.
Wine menu
When you are at our party, you have the option to choose our 7 hour wine menu. This means that the party starts with a welcome drink, then white and red wines are served for dinner. There is also a free bar with beer and soft drinks, and 1 glass of dessert wine for dessert.
Venue and equipment
If you are holding an event, a party or any other type of event, we have 4 event rooms available at Hotel Phønix Hjørring. All rooms are decorated in the same style with charm and soul, reflecting the hotel’s long history. Our event rooms have modern AV equipment, and if you need catering, we can help with that as well.
This is officially a three-star hotel. It is a family run hotel. It feels more like a really friendly bed and breakfast. It’s right in the middle of town. The rooms were good size and super clean and quiet. The service is incredibly friendly and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and welcome.
A very nice breakfast with fresh bread and everything you need is included in the price.
I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about this hotel.

Free WiFi
At our hotel we offer free WiFi to all our guests in all rooms. You can therefore always stay connected and updated, wherever you are in the hotel.
Free Parking
In our courtyard behind the hotel you will find 40 parking spaces. To get free parking, simply give the car number plate at reception when you check in. Free parking is also available on Mammut Square, just a two-minute walk from the hotel.
Daily Cleaning
If you are staying more than one night, you have the option of having your room cleaned. As we are a sustainable hotel, you will not automatically have your room cleaned. By hanging a green sign on the door before 10am, the room will be cleaned. If no sign on the door, then no cleaning. This sustainable approach is to minimize resources on water, electricity and linen.

Bring your dog
Yes, in some rooms you can bring your dog. However, we recommend that you contact us before booking a room. There is a cleaning fee of DKK 200.
Public Transport
If you are travelling by public transport, you will be pleased to know that the train station is just a 5-minute walk from our hotel. This makes it easy and convenient to get to and from the hotel by train or bus.
Opening hours
As we are not open 24 hours, please inform reception if you are coming outside our opening hours.
Printer/Scanner
If you need anything printed during your stay this can be done at reception. 5 pages are free, after this there will be a charge.
Coffee & Tea
All rooms have an electric kettle, as well as instant coffee and tea making facilities. If you run out during your stay, extras are available at reception.
Arrival and departure:
Check-in takes place between 15:00 and 22:00, unless otherwise agreed in advance. On the day of departure check-out is no later than 11:00. For more information on check-in and check-out, please do not hesitate to contact us.

There are many pleasant sights in Hjørring town. You will also find many attractions around Hjørring, both in terms of nature and other sights.
Restaurant
We have great suggestions for places to eat nearby. There are 2 restaurants in the immediate vicinity – Bistro V and Nordisk Buffet. In addition, we can highly recommend Bryghuset Vendia, Bastardo, Hereford House, Hos Uffe and Bone´s, which are all within a few minutes walking distance. If desired, we will be happy to assist with reservations at any of the recommended restaurants.
Coast & Nature
Are you looking for unique experiences along the North Jutland coast? There are plenty of options here, from fantastic sights and opportunities to swim in the roaring North Sea to lovely walks in the dunes and the chance to see the most breathtaking sunsets. There’s something for everyone along our beautiful coastline.
Adventure
Are you looking for a different and exciting outdoor experience? Then you should visit Råbjerg Mile, one of Europe’s largest walking dunes with sand dunes up to 40 metres high. It’s a perfect destination for a hike, so be sure to wear good shoes. The walking dunes move an average of 15 metres a year, so you can experience something different every time you visit. Råbjerg Mile is only 45 km from Hjørring, so it’s easy to get there.

Are you looking for nice routes to run or cycle in Hjørring? We highly recommend taking a walk around Svanelunden or cycling in Bagterp Plantage. These routes offer beautiful surroundings and the opportunity to get some nice exercise.
Day trip
Are you looking for a fun day out for the whole family? Then we recommend going to Fårup Sommerland or the North Sea Oceanarium. Fårup Sommerland is only 35 km from Hjørring, while the North Sea Oceanarium is just 16 km away. Both places offer great experiences for the whole family, so just go!

Occasionally use this hotel as an example of how to run a perfectly functioning, charming and delicious hotel in a small town. With wonderful breakfast, thorough cleaning, solid furniture, happy and friendly staff. The enthusiasm can be felt everywhere.
Have been fully satisfied with my last 2 hotel stays at Hotel Phoenix in Hjørring. Nice and quiet rooms, clean everywhere and with nice, big, warm jets in the shower. Elegant hotel. Great delicious breakfast buffet. Approachable and friendly staff, so my best recommendations to anyone staying in Hjørring. Many thanks for great service and friendliness.
For the price of this hotel I think it was very nice! The room had everything I need in a hotel room. A king size bed and a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. I think this is the first time I have been in a hotel where the pillows were actually comfortable!!! I’m surprised! Also the fact that there is free and easy parking here is nice. The service was also good. I have no complaints about this hotel and would definitely recommend it! We got exactly what we paid for!
